Over 88,000 people vaccinated

KATHMANDU: A total of 88,007 people in Nepal received vaccine against Covid-19 till Sunday, the fifth day of the vaccination campaign.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Jageshwor Gautam said that 12,763 people in Province 1 were vaccinated while 11,057 people in Province 2 and 28,683 people in Bagmati Province received vaccine.

Likewise, a total of 12,311 people in Gandaki Province, 10,760 people in Lumbini Province, 5,556 people in Karnali Province and 6,877 people in Sudurpaschim Province received the vaccine against Covid-19.

Health workers as well as others working in the frontline are being administered the Covid-19 vaccine from 185 vaccination centers across the country from January 27. The vaccine was provided by the Indian government in grant assistance.

Chief of Child Health and Immunization Section of the Department of Health Services, Dr Jhalak Sharma Gautam, said that the scientific study has proved that Covishield is safe and effective.

Though some people developed minor side effects after vaccination, the vaccine is safe and effective, he added. Pain in joints, swelling and pain in the injected place, headache, body pain, are the minor side effects of the vaccine, he shared.
