China to provide 300,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal in grant

KATHMAND: China has agreed to provide 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, the Chinese government has decided to provide 3,00,000 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 to Nepal made by the Chinese company Sinopharm.

It is mentioned in the press note published by the Embassy on Sunday evening that the vaccine will be available to 1.5 million Nepali citizens.

“We believe that the grants provided by China will help Nepal and the Nepalese people to win the war against COVID-19,” the press note said.

“The decision to provide vaccines against COVID-19 in grants reflects the importance of Nepal-China friendship,” the press note said.

The Embassy claims that 24 million doses of vaccines have been distributed by Sunday. After two doses, Covid-19 vaccines have 79.34 percent efficacy, and licenses have been obtained for distribution in 13 countries, including Pakistan, the UAE and Hungary,” the press note said.

The Embassy said that despite the high demand for COVID-19 vaccine in China and around the world, the Chinese government has given special importance to Nepal-China friendship and given priority to Nepal.
