Court’s verdict disregarding the constitution might not be obeyed: NC leader Poudel

NAWALPUR: Youth leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Pradeep Poudel has said that the court verdict will not be held valid if it goes beyond the constitution and constitutional provisions.

Addressing a gathering of NC cadres at Devchuli in East Nawalparasi on Sunday, Pouidel, a Central Committee member of the party stated that the court has no right to decide beyond the constitution.

“The court does not have the right to say that dissolution of the parliament is a parliamentary tradition, as such provisions made in the previous constitution and others have been discarded by the incumbent constitution,” he said.

“People will not accept it if the parliament is not restored and if the precedents of other constitutions are made the basis for the verdict,” he said

He expressed skepticism at the justice to be delivered by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana as the latter ‘has taken part in power-sharing with Prime Minister Oli in nominating his men in the constitutional bodies’.

NC leader Poudel added that the NC’s institutional decision of the parliament reinstatement and the unconstitutional move of PM KP Oli’s government deserves agitation.

He asked all NC supporters to come against the unconstitutional move more aggressively in the days ahead.

He claimed NC would win the election yet, its priority now is safeguarding the constitution and speaking for the restoration of House of Representatives.
