NC leader Durlav Thapa reelected Bhaktapur district president



BHAKTAPUR: Durlav Thapa panel has made a clean sweep in the district convention elections held under the 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress (NC).

Thapa has defeated Asta Kumar Kaway by 113 votes. Thapa has secured 555 votes to become the president of Nepali Congress Bhaktapur district while his closest rival Kaway obtained 442 votes.

Similarly, Bijesh Awal and Urmila Ban from the Thapa panel obtained 529 and 514 votes respectively to become vice presidents of Bhaktapur district from Thapa panel. While their rivals Ram Gopal Neupane and Gokul Raj Khatri obtained 459 and 430 votes, respectively.

Likewise, Sushil Basnet and Rajesh Khadka from Thapa panel garnered 552 and 485 votes to become secretaries.

Yadav Prasad Adhikari and Krishna Murari Neupane have been elected as deputy secretaries with 574 and 514 votes, respectively. Thapa panel has won all the members in the Bhaktapur district working committee.

Thapa and Kaway had fought elections for the district leadership even in the 13th General Convention. Thapa had defeated Kaway then.

Ramila Kapali, Devendra Shrestha and Rajesh Manandhar from Thapa panel have been elected as district members representing Madhyapur Thimi municipality. Similarly, Lalita Dhital, Jeevan Shrestha, Dipendra Kumar Thapa Magar from Suryabinayak municipality, Kalpana Lamichhane, Prem Khatri from Changunarayan municipality and Rajani Kisiju, Dharma Ratna Khaitu and Ram Bahadur Kasula have been elected from Bhaktapur municipality.

Under the Adivasi Janajati category, Roshani Tamang, Dil Laxmi Kayastha, Rameshwor Dhwaju, Dhan Bahadur Thing and Ram Prasad Dhauwanjar have been elected. Similarly, Srijana KC, Devendra Neupane, Achyut Adhikari have been elected from Khas-Arya category, Manita Nepali from Dalit category, Shashi Basnet from physically impaired category and Ram Dinesh Lal Karna has been elected from Madhesi category.

Umesh Kumar Khadka has been elected as district member through Kaway panel representing Changunarayan municipality.

Similarly, Bir Bahadur Bishwokarma has been elected as a working committee member of the Bhaktapur Constituency-2 under the House of Representatives from Kaway panel.

Likewise, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Bishnu Raj Karki have been elected as Mahasamiti members under open category from Bhaktapur-2 from Thapa panel while Ganesh Man Chakradhar, Uddhav Silwal and Santosh Bhattarai have been elected from Kaway panel.

Similarly, Anjana Devi Madhikarmi, Pramila Subedi Acharya (under open women category), Gyan Das Prajapati (Adivasi/Janajati open category, Lachhuram Neupane (Khas-Arya) have been elected as members. All of them are from Kaway group.

Mahasamiti members in Bhaktapur constituency-1 have been elected unopposed. Babu Raja Joshi, Krishna Lal Bhandel, Jagannath Karki, Raja Ram Khadka and Pushkar Khatri have been elected as Mahasamiti members unopposed under open category.

Similarly, Suresh Shrestha, and Rajani Jonchhen (under Adivasi/Janajati), Radha Karki (Saru Baniya), Subhadra Kafle (under women category), Ganga Laxmi Awal (under Adivasi/Janajati women) and Hari Prasad Nepal (Khas-Arya open category) have been elected unopposed.

Thapa is considered close to Deuba panel while Kaway is from the Prakash Man Singh group of the ruling NC.
