Parliamentary team inspects Beni-Jomsom-Korola road

MYGDI: A team of the National Concern and Coordination Sub-Committee under the National Assembly has inspected the Beni-Jomsom-Korola road under the Kaligandaki Corridor.

The team led by sub-committee chairperson Anita Devkota and including members Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Indira Devi Gautam inquired about the construction of the 186 km road connecting to the Korola transit with Chinese through the northern region of Myagdi.
Chief of the Beni-Jomsom-Korola Road Project, Jagat Prajapati, shared that the parliamentary team conducted on-site inspection, held discussions with project officials, people’s representatives, locals and instructed contractors and technicians.

After the monitoring, MP Shrestha, leader of the CPN-Maoist Center, said that attention was drawn on the delay in the construction of the 25-kilometer Charang-Choser section and hence the concerned contractors were asked to expedite it. “China’s preparations have put pressure on us to speed up the construction of infrastructure, including roads and customs,” he said.

The team reached Korola transit point on Thursday and inspected the under-construction road from Jomsom to Lete on Friday.
Project Chief Prajapati told RSS that six out of seven packages of Jomsom-Korola section have been completed, the Jomsom-Kagbeni road is being tarred, third package of Beni-Jomsom road i.e. Kaikukhola-Khanti section is in the final stage.

Similarly, a diversion (alternative) road is being constructed in Annapurna Rural municipality-3 Kavre of Myagdi under the Beni-Jomsom road. The diversion is being made by opening a new 200-meter track.

Indra Singh Sherchan, supervisor of Beni Jomsom Korola Road Project, said that the problem of passengers getting stuck in traffic jams for hours will be ended after the construction of the new road.
