Unity pact likely on Friday evening or else wait is futile: UML leader Pokharel

KATHMANDU: UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel has said understanding could be forged by Friday evening for final settlement of the dispute in the party or else it would be better not to wait for long as the wait could be futile.

Talking to the media at a program organized by the UML at its party office in Thapathali, Friday, Pokharel said they should move ahead on the basis of the 10-point deal struck by the dispute resolution task force. “However, new proposals almost on a daily basis have jeopardized the party unity,” he added.

“We have to move forward within the scope of the 10-point deal put forward by the task force. Chairman KP Oli sought details of unresolved issues till date. Some agreement could be reached this evening. After that, the party is of the view that it is not appropriate to wait long,” said Pokharel.

Pokharel cleared that agreement should not be struck by violating rules and procedures for the sake of party unity. Pokharel also said he was against the proposal to have a second chairman in the party.

The UML called a meeting of the Standing Committee for Saturday and the meeting would resolve the issues of dispute, added Pokharel.
