NC preparing to adjourn 14th Gen Convention till mid-December

NC leaders in regular contact with EC officials

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is making preparations to postpone the 14th General Convention of the party scheduled for September 1-4.

Sources have claimed that the NC is preparing to adjourn the general convention in consultation with the Election Commission (EC).

The EC will provide time till December to hold the NC’s general convention, said the source, adding, “We are discussing the matter with the EC.”

It is likely that the general convention will not be held in the time scheduled. A leader said that the NC leaders are in regular contact with the commission officials.

He said that the NC would demand time from the Commission citing the reasons including the COVID-19 infections. “The Commission will give time till mid-December,” he said.

The Congress had scheduled the 14th general convention of the party on September 1 to 4.

With only one month to go before the scheduled date of the general convention, the NC has not sorted out the disputes of active memberships.

A source claimed that the issue is unlikely to be resolved even though a five-day time was sought on Thursday.

There are membership disputes in more than 100 wards, new membership files have not been opened in Bara and Saptari, disputes in Dhanusha and Sarlahi constituencies.

Similarly, the integration of those who have joined the party from different parties has not been completed.

According to the last general convention schedule set by the NC, the ward convention should have been held on July 29 and the municipal convention on Thursday.
