Police foil child marriage bid in Sindhuli



KATHMANDU: Police have intervened and stopped a child marriage in Sindhuli.

The marriage between a bride, who is yet to be of marriageable age, of Kamalamai Municipality-2, and a bridegroom of Bakaiya Rural Municipality, Makawanpur district, halted after police intervened on Friday.

According to police, the bridegroom was 25 years old and the bride was 18 years and 6 months old.

Brides must be at least 21 years of age to be legally married, according to the penal code 2017.

According to Sindhuli District Police Office, guardians of the two parties were brought to the office and they had agreed to wed their children after both reach marriageable age.
