MCC should be ratified at the earliest: Deuba

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has reiterated that Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact should be ratified from the parliament at the earliest.

Speaking at a press conference organized at his Budhanilkantha based residence Friday afternoon, NC President dismissed the allegations that he agreed with CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s opinion that the mega grant project should be revised before ratification.

“NC has no doubt on the fact that MCC is a mega-grant that can make impacts in infrastructure development in Nepal,” he said, adding “It must be ratified at the earliest.”

Deuba clarified that he had no agreement with Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda on the issue of MCC.

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has dismissed rumors about the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) terming them as baseless.

Deuba said MCC is nothing but a grant given to Nepal for free. “We do not even have to pay its interest,” he told reporters at his residence in Budanilakantha Friday.

“Who said the US Army will land in Nepal?” he asked brushing aside all rumors about MCC labeling the claims as baseless.
