KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has been headed towards the verge of split, with two factions sticking to their guns.

The intra-party feud has taken a new height after Thakur-Mahato faction and Yadav-Bhattarai factions are not ready to abide by each other’s decisions.

The dispute has further flared and surfaced especially after the JSP lent its support to Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel of Lumbini Pradesh.

Reacting to the support, JSP Chair Upendra Yadav has said the party has taken actions against four lawmakers for supporting the Pokharel-led government.

As opposed to the version of Yadav, JSP Central Council Chairman Mahantha Thakur said the party has not taken any actions against four lawmakers.

According to the notice issued by the Province Assembly Secretariat, lawmakers Santosh Kumar Pandey, Bijaya Kumar Yadav, Suman Sharma Rayamajhi and Kalpana Pandey have been relieved of their posts of lawmakers.

Province Assembly secretariat had received a letter which started that actions have been taken against four lawmakers in line with Section 34 of Political Parities Act, 2063 BS.

In line with the letter received, the Province Assembly secretariat has also issued a notice stating that the JSP has stripped them of party memberships.

However, JSP Central Council Chairman Mahantha Thakur has stated that the party has not taken any actions against its four lawmakers.

Sending a letter to Chief of Lumbini Pradesh, Thakur clarified that the Central Executive Committee of the party has not decided to relieve them of their posts.

The group led by JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav and Federal Council Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai has been against Prime Minister  KP Sharma Oli while Thakur-Mahato faction is loyal to him.
