KATHMANDU: Of late the impact of the split of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has become noticeable in various development projects after the two factions have come openly in scandal-mongering against each other.

The faction led by Prime Minister KP Oli seems concerned about increasing the number of ‘achievements’ in terms of the foundation stones laid by its Ministers.

As if answering to the allegation of inefficiency PM Oli led government seems busy to cash the period by increasing the number of projects inaugurated in PM Oli’s period irrespective of the fact whether the projects have already been inaugurated by others or are merely sketched in the paper without any budget allocation.

Chitwan District Administration increased security alert in the district on Saturday.

The security alert enforced this time is to ward off possible protests against the PM. Prachanda- Nepal faction protested against the PM saying the ‘ill-intent’ PM is there to lay the foundation stone on the projects that are already under construction.

Renu Dahal, the Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City described the visit as untimely and irrelevant.

PM Oli laid the foundation stone on two projects in Chitwan: the expansion of the Pulchowk-Gondrang sector of Mahendra Highway and the construction of City Hall at Bharatpur.

Mayor Dahal objected to PM’s visit saying it was scheduled without consulting the local levels executing the projects.

Last week only the PM Oli faction had criticized Sudurpaschim Province’s Chief Minister for not welcoming the Prime Minister during his visit there.

Similarly, Shankar Pokharel, the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province reached Rolpa to lay the foundation stone of a bridge in Libang.

The bridge CM Pokharel inaugurated on Saturday is under-construction since last December.

According to Nabin Kumar Shrestha, the chief of Road Infrastructure Project Office (RIPO) Rolpa, Shrestha’s office RIPO and Asiatic/Raj JV signed a contract in November and the construction work is going on smoothly since then.

He informed that the constructing party has already received 56.1 million rupees claiming more than 25 percent of the construction work is completed.

Chief Minster Bhatta had shown himself in to welcome NCP Prachanda-Nepal faction leaders in Dhangadhi though.

While asked why he had refrained from the PM’s visit to the province, Bhatta had also replied that he was not officially informed about the PM’s visit, and as the PM was in the faction’s program, he could refrain from the program.

Generally, the foundation stone of the development work is laid at the time of initiating the construction.

However, Oli’s faction of the NCP seems to cash the power to carve the name of its Ministers in various places by laying the foundation stone on the projects already at the stage of completion.

The prachanda-Nepal faction of NCP has objected to the government’s campaign accusing the government of misusing the nation’s resources to promote the propaganda of Oli’s faction

Nepali Congress has not officially commented on the issue but Gopal Poudel, a Province level leader of Gandaki Province claimed that the party would come officially on the issue, however, till then, the local bodies have decided to boycott such controversial programs of the government.
