Minister Chaudhary pledges to restore water supply from Melamchi soon

KATHMANDU: Minister for Water Supply, Uma Kant Chaudhary has pledged to restore the water supply from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project soon.

In his address to a program organized to thank the representatives of the Nepali Congress 14th General Convention that elected him as the party joint general-secretary, the Minister said he was committed to materializing the dream of former Prime Minister and NC veteran leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai of providing water from the Melamchi river to the people of Kathmandu Valley.

As he said, he was working to restore the water supply system soon though temporarily.

As he said, leader Bhattarai was not remembered at all when the waters from the Sindhupalchowk-based River arrived in the Valley and the project was inaugurated, which was political dishonesty on the part of the then government. The project was completed in April and it has remained suspended since the devastating Melamchi flood damaged the intake of the project in June.

Stating that the party’s 14th General Convention had established the youth leadership in the party, he hoped that youths could prove their presence at every level in the days to come.

Pradeep Poudel who was the candidate for the General Secretary in the General Convention said that his candidacy was for encouraging the role of youths in the party.

The participants of the program including Nepal Students Union general secretary Baladev Timilsina insisted that the party should move ahead with new thoughts and visions.
