CPN-UML suspends leaders Nepal, Rawal for six months

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has taken action against senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Vice-chairman Bhim Rawal of the party Monday.

Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Oli has notified the leaders, by issuing letters, about the decision to suspend them from the party for a duration of six months for carrying out activities against the party’s interests.

Senior leader Nepal and Rawal have been served a 5-point letter.

Stating that the clarification letters submitted by the two leaders earlier to the UML Chair Oli was not satisfactory, they have been suspended for six months from the party membership and all committees in the party.

The action has been taken as per Article 49B of the UML constitution, 1992.

However, the letter states that if the leaders’ activities and perspectives regarding the party are rectified then the suspension could be reduced. The letter also mentions that they have been given a last chance to realign themselves with the party’s principles and interests.

Earlier today, Nepal and Rawal had met Prachanda after they learned about the party action they were to face.

Meanwhile, senior leader Nepal has remarked that the action taken against him and Rawal was meaningless.

He asked, “Which party has suspended me? Oli party?” He also added that UML Chair Oli did not have the right to suspend him.
