Prof Bhandari bags Research Award of TH Köln 2021



KATHMANDU: Prof Dr Ramchandra Bhandari, Professor of Renewable Energy Systems at the Faculty of Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems, the TH Köln or Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Germany, has received the TH Köln 2021 research award. The award is endowed with 10,000 euros.

Professor Bhandari works on the promotion of renewable energies and the life cycle assessment of energy systems.

He is also researching the development and optimization of hybrid systems for rural electrification in Africa. Together with the: Metabolon Institute, he also investigates the environmental impact of various process chains within waste management.

Since 2015 Prof Dr Bhandari carried out 17 teaching and research projects – all with international cooperation partners. He is currently supervising nine doctoral candidates in their doctoral thesis, the TH Köln mentioned in its website.

“Professor Bhandari impressed with his impressive number of research projects acquired, the number of publications with around 30 publications, and a large number of doctoral students supervised,” said the jury in its reasoning.

“His research makes an important contribution to the scientific discourse and is also recognized internationally thanks to his excellent professional network.

In addition, there is his contribution to interdisciplinarity, his commitment to young academics, and his transfer-oriented research work with consistently high commitment in teaching. In doing so, Professor Bhandari provides important impulses for the development of the profile of the TH Köln.”

Professor Bhandari is also associated with a research project in collaboration with Kathmandu University of Nepal.
