Govt to announce tourism sector revival package: Minister Dhakal

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to unveil programs of short-term and long-term plans with strategic importance to revive the country’s tourism sector, which is the worst-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal announced to bring effective plans after consulting with the stakeholders for the revival of tourism sector.

At a programs with the journalists on Friday, Minister Dhakal said that activities included in the government’s policy and programs and five-year plan would also be incorporated in the tourism recovery packages.

“I am not for highly-ambitious project. I am for doing the best effort. Despite the change of minister, there is continuity in the policy. I will give continuity to some jobs of strategic importance since the outgoing minister is also my colleague,” Minister Dhakal told the journalists.

Similarly, Dhakal said that the government would forward necessary processes for issuance of on arrival visa for the foreigners to facilitate their visit to Nepal.

He shared that the ministry is of the idea to allow the foreigners to travel freely in Nepal if they had received vaccines against Covid-19 and added that the agencies are written in the same spirit.

Similarly, Minister Dhakal said that the existing provision for quarantine to the foreigners would be eased after the complaints from the entrepreneurs.

The Ministry has written to the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) to allow the travelers with negative report for coronavirus disease for their unrestricted travels and the Council of Ministers would take decision for the same soon, Minister Dhakal added.

Likewise, Minister Dhakal said that promotional activities would be conducted to attract religious tourists while the domestic tourism would also be promoted.

On the occasion, he promised to reform the management of national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation, and to effectively run the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

Furthermore, the remaining tasks of Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara Regional International Airport would be expedited. It is said that 98 per cent construction works of Gautam Buddha International Airport and 70 per cent of Pokhara Regional International Airport are completed so far.
