KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expanded its tourism and civil aviation committee.

The committee formed under the leadership of its executive committee member Jyotsana Shrestha comprises NATA chairperson Achyut Guragain (vice-chairperson), director of Nepal Tourism Board Nandini Lahe Thapa and TAAN chairperson Khum Bahadur Subedi.

Other members in the committee are FNCCI executive board member Pushpa Raj Kunwar, director of Nepal Airlines Corporation Janakraj Kalakheti, chief executive office of IME Travels Rudra Prasad Sapkota, general manager of Radisson Hotel Anil Das Shrestha and PATA chair Bibhuti Chand Thakur.

Head of Practice Tourism of Dolma Consultancy Upal Majumadar and former board member of FNCCI Ramsharan Thapaliya have been nominated as advisers to the committee.

Addressing the committee expansion program, FNCCI chair Shekhar Golchha said, “We could reap huge benefits if our tourism potentials were capitalized in a full-fledged manner”.

Focus should be laid on promoting strong marketing and bringing in quality tourists, he said, urging the tourism committee to play a special role towards enhancing tourism space.

FNCCI’s senior vice-chairperson Chandra Prasad Dhakal said the committee would bring significant initiatives to give respite to the COVID-19 battered tourism economy and also expressed his commitment to fully cooperate with the committee to that end.

He suggested the hotel and resort entrepreneurs to come up with scheme to provide special discounts to all members of the FNCCI in a bid to promote internal tourism.
