Nepal Bar set to announce fifth phase of movement against CJ Rana

Handed over memorandum to Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Nepal seeking CJ Rana's impeachment

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) is going to make public the fifth phase of the protest programs against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Monday.

According to NBA sources, Nepal Bar, which has been agitating for a month demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Rana, has called the working committee meeting to decide on the nature of protest to take ahead from Monday.

“The meeting will discuss the model of the upcoming movement and then the announcement will be made on Monday,” said Nepal Bar Chairman Chandeshwor Shrestha.

Nepal Bar staged regular sit-ins at the Supreme Court premises on Sunday as well. Earlier, it had handed over letters to three different political parties to draw their attention to the issue.

The fourth phase of the protest was scheduled till last Friday.

In the meantime, NBA handed over a memorandum to CPN-Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal today, seeking the impeachment proposal against Chief Justice Rana.

The professional umbrella organization of all the lawyers in Nepal has already drawn the attention of the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party and other opposition parties including CPN-UML and Rastriya Janamorcha Party on the issue.

Similarly, a letter seeking the attention of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsina was also submitted. However, the parties have not shown interest on the issue yet. Chief Justice Rana, on the other hand, has been working regularly.
