Minister Shrestha shows concerns on welfare of Nepali workers



KATHMANDU: Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha, who is currently in Dubai to attend the Sixth Ministerial-Level Abu Dhabi Dialogue, had a meeting with UAE’s Minister for Human Resource Dr Abdulrahman Abdul Manan Al Awar on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Minister Shrestha discussed with the UAE Minster the matters related to the welfare and social security of Nepali workers in UAE.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the two ministers discussed organizing the Nepal-UAE bilateral meeting, conducting skill-based training targeted to Nepali workers bound to UAE, sending competent and technical human resources including doctors, nurses, engineers to UAE, and expanding plan of the social security.

Other diplomatic meetings in Abu Dhabi
The Nepali delegation that attended the sixth ministerial-level dialogue also had other diplomatic meetings in Abu Dhabi.

Secretary at the Ministry of Labour Surya Prasad Gautam separately held meetings with his counterparts of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia focusing on the measures to resolve the problems faced by Nepali workers in foreign employment.

In a secretary-level meeting with Qatar, matters related to bilateral labor pact and preparation of a joint meeting to be held on November 8 and 9 and operation of a training center focusing on Nepali workers.

Likewise, in a secretary-level meeting with Saudi Arabia, matters related to the bilateral labor agreement, acquisition of support from Saudi Arabia in the system of testing competence of the laborers, and establishment of Nepal worker-focused training center.

Similarly, matters related to promptly organizing a meeting of the joint committees, expanding the scope of social security, and identifying the causes of death of Nepali workers in Malaysia and its preventive measures were discussed in the secretary-level meeting with Malaysia, shared Dr Thaneswor Bhusal, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, who also attended the meeting.
