KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said there was a discrepancy observed in Maoist ideology and practice.

Addressing a national gathering of the Young Communist League (YCL) on Saturday, Prachanda bemoaned that Maoist leaders and cadres were becoming self-serving. “Rather than working for the people, leaders and cadres are found to be dedicated somewhat for gaining a position and somewhat for self-interest,” he said.

Stating that the trend of not walking the talk was proliferating, he urged Maoists not to deceive and cheat the people. He rued he could not sustain the unity of the communist movement.

Maoist Chairman Prachanda said he fought between life and death to arrive in the present day to defeat the regression arising in the Communist movement. He compared the recent struggle against UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Oli to fighting the people’s war from 1996 to 2006.

He said UML Chair Oli also acknowledged the crucial role of the Maoists in the transformation of Nepal’s political and cultural foundations. He clarified that he struggled to topple Oli-led government and nullify the unification between the UML and Maoists, as Oli did not honor the gentlemen’s agreement of alternately sharing power in the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

Stating that the onus was on the youths for social transformation, he said though he wanted to retire from politics he could not do so as the new generation was not yet ready to take charge.

He advocated for a national campaign for development by incorporating all sides. “Nothing is impossible if you concentrate all might into whatever is desirable,” he said.
