Madhav Nepal bequeathing lawmakers to PM Deuba for ministerial berths: UML leader Basnet

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has said that Madhav Kumar Nepal was bequeathing lawmakers to Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Addressing an event held by the Youth Force at Lubhu in Lalitpur Saturday, Basnet came down heavily on leader Nepal, who formed the CPN Unified Socialist by splitting the UML, and said leader Nepal was offering lawmakers at the feet of PM Deuba for ministerial berths.

“I have heard six are becoming ministers. In the past, Madhav Nepal offered himself to the monarchy to secure the post of prime minister. Now he is submitting lawmakers with him to Deuba to get ministries,” he said.

Leader Basnet also accused leader Nepal of reducing the UML to 33 seats during his leadership and handing over the party to the Maoists. “Madhav Nepal along with Jhala Nath Khanal tried to hand the party to the Maoists but they met resistance from KP Oli,” he said.

Leader Basnet urged leaders supporting leader Nepal to return to the UML saying that leader Nepal was using communist founder Madan Bhandari’s name to sell lawmakers to Prachanda and Deuba.
