Red light turns on as water flow increases in Saptakoshi River

KATHMANDU: The water level in the Saptakoshi River is increasing with the water flow measured at 222,215 cusecs on Friday afternoon, according to the Koshi Barrage Control Room.

The red light in the Koshi Barrage has been on while the settlements downstream have been urged to stay alert. Torrential rains for three days have taken their toll in various Tarai districts. As a result, of 56 floodgates in the river, 22 have been opened to ease the water current. Other floodgates would be open if the water flow continues to increase, said the Control Room.

Meanwhile, the settlements at Gobargadha of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-13 have been exposed to risks of being flooded, said the Municipality Mayor Shailesh Kumar Sah. He requested the local people to remain safe from the risks.
