NC leader Koirala reaches Bohoratar seeking support for his presidency bid

Koirala suggested Poudel to consider being PM rather than NC President

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has urged senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel to support his bid for party president at the party’s 14th general convention.

According to sources, Dr. Koirala, who reached Poudel residence in Bohratar Monday, urged Poudel to consider the post of Prime Minister as he would take charge of the leadership in the party.

Both Koirala and Poudel aspire to lead the party and both have sought each other’s support for their individual aspirations.

Meanwhile, Poudel told Koirala that he would like to be NC President once in the course of his political career. Koirala, on his part, conveyed that he had been preparing for the presidency ever since the 13th general convention came to an end and he could not back now.

NC leaders are coming forward with their ambitions as the 14th general convention of the party is nearing.

To date, incumbent President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi, senior leader Poudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh, Central Member Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Sujata Koirala and Kalyan Gurung have expressed their candidature for the position of NC President.

As there are many aspirants, leaders have also informally agreed to back a candidate for the presidency through consensus.
