Attorney General demands revoking licenses of three senior advocates

KATHMANDU: Attorney General (AG) Ramesh Badal has demanded to revoke the licenses of three advocates, including senior advocate Shambhu Thapa, debating on behalf of the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

On the debate related to the dissolution of HoR at the Constitutional Bench on Friday, AG Badal demanded action against advocates who, despite registering names for debate on behalf of writ petitioners, went to advise Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, the defendant in the writ.

“In the writ petition, petitioners have named the President, the Prime Minister and the Speaker as defendants,” Attorney General Badal said, adding, “The same lawyer standing with both parties, i.e. petitioner and defendant, in the case is against the code of conduct of the lawyers.”

He alleged that senior advocates Shambhu Thapa, Govinda  Sharma ‘Bandi’ and Tikaram Bhattarai who were in the court representing the writ petitioners Friday had been with a defendant in the case Speaker Sapkota a day before, and demanded that their licenses should be revoked.

The Attorney General warned other lawyers too to refrain from arguing in the court if they have advised defendants in the case.
