HoR dissolution against SC’s February 23 decision: Four former chief justices

KATHMANDU: Four former Chief Justices (CJs) have said the move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) for the second time is in contravention to the Supreme Court’s February 23 decision.

Issuing a joint statement Friday, four fomer CJs concluded that unconstitutional practices, including HoR dissolution, could lead to the collapse of the constitution. “The recent practices of Article 76 indicate that implementation of constitution is regressive and does not conform to the spirit of democratic principles,” the statement said.

The former Chief Justices issuing the statement are Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anupraj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki.

The CJs have also added that such moves undermined the rule of law giving rise to grave consequences by endangering democracy.
