Govt. to arrange for 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in 10 days

KATHMANDU: The government has assured that it will settle on the procurement of over 10 million doses of vaccines against COVID-19 within 10 days.

Addressing the journalists during a virtual press meet on Friday, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, who is involved in the vaccine procurement process, informed that the procurement of five million vaccines from China and another  five million from the United States would be completed within 10 days.

“The government is preparing to buy five million doses each from China and USA,” Minister Gyawali said, adding, “Besides, one million doses of vaccine provided by China will arrive in Kathmandu next week.”

He also said that diplomatic initiations to bring one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the ones the US government has in store are also in progress.

If all these vaccines arrive, 12 million doses of vaccines will be imported to Nepal immediately.

Foreign Minister Gyawali claimed that there will be a ‘breakthrough’ in vaccine procurement within 10 days.
