Flights resume at TIA

KATHMANDU: Flights that were halted at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) due to bad weather condition have resumed from Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, both domestic and international flights were halted at TIA.

” With the improvement in the visibility, the flights have resumed adopting instrument flight rules (IFR),” said TIA General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari.

All flights to and from Kathmandu were affected due to poor visibility caused by dense smug in the sky in Kathmandu.

The smog blanketing the Kathmandu Valley since Friday is to stay some more days.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology informed that the air pollution caused by wildfire in most of the districts, long drought, and lack of strong wind is behind the smog.

The polluted air has badly declined visibility.

However, the atmosphere which is currently stable will improve in two to three days, according to meteorologist Bibhuti Pokhrel. She shared the information that most of the districts in the country were suffering wildfire and no rainfall for some time. The improvement in current whether needs either wind or rainfall, she stressed.

The people have felt eyesore due to the air pollution.

The Department has requested people not to leave home and compulsorily use the mask and maintain further alertness in case of leaving home to stay away from effects of air pollution.

Currently, there is a minor effect of westerly wind and local wind, which will cause light rain with thunder and lightning in few places of hilly regions in the country today, the Department forecasted.

Forest fires occurred in some areas of Nepal and neighboring India and dusts in the atmosphere are blamed partly for the fogs, said senior meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Raju Pradhananga.

Weather will be clear once the infernos come under control, he said.
