Three hostage-takers held for demanding Rs 1 mln ransom



KATHMANDU: Three people have been arrested on the charge of demanding Rs 1 million in ransom by taking a man hostage.

The arrested are Rohit Pandit, 20, of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-16, Ajaya Yadav, 21, of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-16 and Sandhya Sharma, 28, of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-2, said District Police Office (DPO), Morang.

The arrested had taken hostage a 23-year-old Subhash Kamat of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-18 on Saturday afternoon.

They had demanded Rs 1 million in ransom from the victim’s family, SP Man Bahadur Rai, the spokesperson of DPO, Morang, said.

Acting on a tip-off, police safely rescued Kamat within two hours of his hostage taking.
