SC summons ex-CJs, former Speaker over contempt of court

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has summoned four Chief Justices (CJs) with written replies over contempt of court case filed against them.

The apex court ordered former CJs Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anupraj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha, and Sushila Karki to appear in person within seven days.

A single bench of Justice Manoj Sharma passed the order on Thursday while hearing the petitions by Dhanjit Basnet and Lochan Bhattarai.

Similarly, the court has also ordered former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana to appear with a written reply.

Former CJs had remarked that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was unconstitutional.

Former Speaker Dhungana had said that it would be better if the day when Justices are pulled from streets doesn’t come.

It was alleged in the petition that they have done contempt of court by commenting on the case under consideration at the apex court.
