KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Rakesh Agrawal, the proprietor of Annapurna and Indira Sugar Mills, on the charge of not paying the farmers on time.
According to Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ashok Singh, he was arrested after he could not pay the dues to sugarcane farmers on time. However, he has promised to pay on time.
An arrest warrant was issued against him by the West Nawalparasi and Sarlahi District courts in a fraud case.
Farmers have said that the Indira Sugar Mill in Pratappuram of Nawalparasi, which is owned by Rakesh, is yet to pay Rs 50 million.
Annapurna Sugar and General Industries is in Sarlahi. The industry has to pay Rs 170 million to the farmers. He had also been arrested in October 2018 on the charge of not paying the farmers.
