9,084 received COVID-19 vaccine on first day: Health Ministry

KATHMANDU:  As many as 9,084 people were vaccinated against the COVID-19 on Wednesday, the first day of vaccination in Nepal, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

No side-effect has been reported on the people who received vaccine so far.

According to the ministry, 1,255 in Province 1, 726 in Province 2, 2,694 in Bagmati, 1,843 in Gandaki, 733 in Lumbini, 751 in Karnali and 1,082 in Sudurpaschim received vaccine yesterday.

Dr Sagar Kumar Raj Bhandari, the director of Shukraraaj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, was the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister KP Oli launched the Covishield vaccination provided by Indian government in grant on Wednesday.

The government has planned to administer the vaccine on 430 thousand people. So far, no side effect is felt by the people receiving the vaccine, according to Jageshwor Gautam, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli, also the defense minister, visited the Birendra Military Hospital, Chhauni on Wednesday and observed service delivery on Covid-19 vaccination.
