KATHMANDU: As the CPN-UML increased openings for the post of Deputy General Secretary to be elected from the 10th General Convention from one to three, the number of leaders aspiring for the same posts also increased.

Three senior secretaries of the last CC Gokarna Bista, Pradip Gyawali and Prithvi Subba Gurung have claimed a stake in these three openings. Moreover, Standing Committee member Bishnu Rimal is also willing to stake a claim in the same post.

Leaders, who had been claiming stake at other posts earlier, have turned their attention to the post of Deputy General Secretary after opening for Deputy General Secretary increased.

The UML’s last meeting of the Central Committee (CC), elected from the 9th General Convention, on Friday night decided to increase the number of Deputy General Secretaries from one to three.

Earlier, Secretary Gokarna Bista was to repeat in the same position of secretary, while Prithvi Subba Gurung had announced his candidacy for the General Secretary. Likewise, Standing committee member Bishnu Rimal also claimed the post of secretary.
