UML Chair Oli struggling for unanimous selection of leadership

Nemwang proposed for Vice-President

SAURAHA: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli is striving to seek leadership in consensus rather than letting the leaders contest for the post of their choice.

According to UML sources, the closed session of the General Convention has been delayed due to Chairman Oli’s busy schedule meeting the leaders contesting for senior posts.

Oli had a discussion with Subash Nembang after the latter refused to withdraw his candidacy for the post of senior vice president. The source claimed that Oli proposed Nembang for the post of vice president.

The UML chair will decide from the Safari Park, his current dwelling in Chitwan, who to include in the new office bearers added by the central committee meeting at the convention site on Friday.

Officials are holding a meeting at Hotel Safari Park. As a result, the closed session is likely to be extended.

The closed session scheduled to start at 10 am on Saturday at Seven Star has not started even till 12:30 pm. Delegates are all waiting for Oli.

Oli had called the central committee at 8 pm yesterday and reached there at 11 pm.

Cadres chanting slogans in favor of consensus

Slogans have been chanted outside the closed session site of the 10th General Convention of the CPN-UML in Sauraha, urging Chairman Oli to select the leadership by consensus.

Outside the closed session site, slogans like ‘leadership must be unanimous’, ‘Long live CPN-UML’ are in air mounting pressure not to go for election for the selection of officials.

Most of the delegates participating in the General Convention are of the view that the UML, which has unanimously selected the leadership at the ward and municipality level, should also elect the central leadership through consensus.

As soon as the leaders announced their candidacies, the cadres who came to participate in the general convention have started chanting slogans.
