SC judges to attend full court meet to pass condolence motion

Hearing on benches to be postponed Wednesday

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court (SC) judges, who had formerly boycotted the full court meeting convened by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, have decided to attend Wednesday’s meeting to pass a condolence motion.

According to SC sources, the full court meeting on Wednesday is set to pass a condolence motion at the demise of former judge Sharada Prasad Pandit.

Pandit, who entered the service as the public prosecutor and became a judge, passed away on Wednesday.

Due to the death of the former judge Pundit, the hearings on all benches will be postponed after passing the motion, as there is the convention of not carrying out any hearing on the day the condolence motion is passed.

Despite the controversy and the SC judges’ refusal to carry out hearing on benches allocated by Chief Justice Rana, the Chief Justice had scheduled 11 benches for Wednesday.
