Birgunj customs office collects Rs 855.08 billion in two months

KATHMANDU: The dry port customs office, Birgunj has collected more revenue amount than its target of over Rs 707 billion in two months in the fiscal year, 2021/22.

It collected Rs 855.08 billion in two months, Saun and Bhadra, a 20.96 percent increment than the target.

Goods imported from various foreign countries including neighboring India, Japan, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Korea, and the Gulf countries reached Nepal through the Kolkata port in India and this customs office in Bara.

Lately, there has been a surge in the import of goods from foreign countries including India, thanks to COVID-19 caused situation being normalized following decreasing infection cases, said the Office chief Dr Lal Bahadur Khatri, adding that as a result, the size of revenue collection in the past two months increased.

Imported goods from foreign countries included raw materials for industries, vehicles, alcoholic beverages, and readymade clothes.
