Nishan Dhungel elected NC Suryabinayak municipality President

BHAKTAPUR: Nishan Dhungel has been elected as the President of Nepali Congress (NC) Suryabinayak municipality through the municipal convention held under the 14th General Convention of the party.

The entire team led by Dhungel has won the elections in the municipal convention held on Sunday.

Dhungel has garnered 144 votes while his closest rival Ravi Rana secured 112 votes out of 285 votes cast. Of the total 286 votes, 29 votes were declared invalid while one voter remained absent.

Similarly, two Vice Presidents from the Dhungel panel Raman Kayastha and Ramesh Kumar Adhikari obtained 148 and 133 votes respectively while their closest rivals from Rana Panel Dinesh Neupane and Mahesh KC received 106 and 101 votes, respectively.

Likewise, two secretaries from the Dhungel panel Suman Neupane and Bishwaram Thapa have garnered 158 and 136 votes respectively while their closest rivals Laxman Thapa and Upendra Nandan Timalsina have received 106 and 101 votes.

Deputy secretaries Amir Dhungana and Suresh KC from the Dhungel panel got 143 and 131 votes while their rivals Rupak Neupane and Ram Gotame obtained 125 and 103 votes.

A total of 59 including officer-bearers and members have been elected in the municipal convention.

Talking to Khabarhub newly elected President Dhungel thanked all the regional representatives for electing him as the President and expressed commitment that he would further consolidate the party and regain the lost glory of the NC in Suryabinayak municipality.

There are a total of 286 regional representatives elected through ward conventions to elect the leadership during the convention. Of the total 10 wards, Suryabinayak municipality-1 has 28 regional representatives, ward 2 has 38, ward 3 has 28, ward 4 has 27, ward 5 has 49, ward 6 has 29, ward no. 7 has 18, ward no 8 has 18, ward 9 has 18 and ward no 10 has 30 regional representatives.

Dhungel is considered close to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba while Rana is close to Poudel faction of the Nepali Congress.

NC’s Provincial Assembly Regional Convention has been slated for September 28, district convention with only one constituency on October 1 and district convention having more than one constituency on October 4.

Likewise, the NC has decided to hold Province Convention on October 27-29 and the Central General Convention on November 25-29.
