Late monsoon gets active again; heavy rain forecast in most parts of Nepal



KATHMANDU: The monsoon has become active again in Nepal as the low-pressure line developed in the Bay of Bengal has been shifting towards the country.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), the danger of flooding and erosion has increased in the area as the late monsoon locally known as ‘Bhadaure Jhai’ is concentrated in the Terai region.

According to meteorologists, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the Terai for a few days. It has been raining continuously for the past few days especially around Lumbini area in the Terai.

Similarly, heavy rains are likely in some parts of the hilly region. Heavy rainfall is estimated in Gandaki, Bagmati and hilly areas of the far west. The MFD has urged people to take precautions, warning of floods and landslides.

According to the MFD, more than 100 millimeters of rain has been recorded in many parts of the country due to the late monsoon.

The MFD has estimated that the flow in big and small rivers including Koshi and Narayani will increase due to heavy rains. Similarly, the flow of Karnali, Trishuli, Budhigandaki, Marsyangdi, Kaligandaki and other rivers flowing through the hills will also be above the danger level.

Similarly, floods are likely in the big rivers including Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, Tinau and Rapti.

Likewise, light to moderate rain is expected in most parts of the country. There is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and some parts of Lumbini Province and one or two places in Far West and Karnali Province.
