KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel as the Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission(NPC) on Tuesday.
A cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar today decided to appoint economist Poudel as the vice-chairman of the Commission. He was an NPC member during PM Deuba’s previous premiership.
Poudel holds a PhD degree from the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California at Berkeley.
Likewise, Dr. Ram Kumar Phuyal and Dil Bahadur Gurung were appointed as members of NPC, informed government Spokesperson and Law Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.
Office-bearers of the NPC were relieved automatically when former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had lost the prime minister ship after losing the trust vote on May 10, 2021. Phuyal and Gurung were made NPC members from Maoist Center quota.
Remaining positions of NPC office-bearers’ would be appointed in the future from the UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction and Janata Samajbadi Party’s Upendra Yadav faction.
