Maoist Center Standing Committee meet underway

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Standing Committee (SC) of the Maoist Center has started at party’s central office at Paris Danda in Koteshwor Tuesday afternoon.

The SC meeting is expected to discuss the party’s participation in the government besides the latest political developments.

The Maoist Center, which is in the ruling coalition, is yet to decide more ministerial candidates for participation in the government. Currently, two ministers — Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and Energy Minister Pampha Bhusal — from the Maoist Center are in the government.

The party is likely to get few more ministries as part of power-sharing deal.

The party has 49 lawmakers in the federal parliament and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is under extreme pressure to pick a few from among them as ministers as almost all lawmakers have aspired to take up ministerial positions.

The ongoing meeting is also discussing constitutional appointments and change of provincial chiefs, among others. The Maoists are likely to have two governors as per the power-sharing deal at province-level.
