Women empowerment campaign launched in Byas Municipality

TANAHU: Byas Municipality of Tanahu district has launched ‘Atmanirbhar Chori Sashakta Byas Nagar’ (Independent Daughters, Strong Empowered Byas Municipality) in a bid to empower and honor daughters (women) in the municipality.

The campaign will benefit the daughters of the indigenous, Dalit, and marginalized communities residing within the municipality. To discourage child marriage, the municipality will provide financial assistance to those families among Dalit, Bote, Darai, Kumal, and Chepang communities marrying off their daughters after 20 years of their birth.

Chief Administrative Officer in the Municipality Dilliram Sigdel shared that the campaign was launched to uplift the girl child in the marginalized communities. Likewise, those graduated women from impoverished families and residing permanently in the municipality will be provided grant assistance for developing entrepreneurship in them.

Furthermore, the campaign also included health coverage for women from impoverished families. The ‘Women with Deputy Mayor’ program aims to assist expecting and new mothers with nutrition to themselves and their newborns.

Likewise, those women surviving sexual violence will be provided legal assistance and counseling as well as protection from the gender-based violence fund.

Scholarship for the daughters from impoverished families have been put in place to help them in their higher education, informed Byas Municipality Mayor Baikuntha Neupane.
