Thakur faction of JSP likely to register RJP at EC today

JSP on verge of split

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur has decided to register a new party at the Election Commission (EC).

Thakur and senior leader Rajendra Mahato are likely to go to the EC on Thursday to register the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP).

Thakur has decided to revive JSP after Upendra Yadav’s faction of the JSP has got the majority in the party’s executive committee.

Among the 50-member executive committee, only 21 are in favor of Thakur.

A source close to Thakur said that even though Thakur and Mahato were preparing to register the JSP on Wednesday, they could not do so because of a public holiday.
