Govt warns action against the labs levying high charge for COVID test

KATHMANDU: The government has warned to take stringent action against the laboratories charging people more than the government rate for the PCR tests against coronavirus pandemic.

Issuing a notice on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and Population has urged the private laboratories not to charge extra fees for PCR testing for coronavirus identification.

“The government has set Rs 1,000 a PCR test fee for government laboratories and Rs 2,000 for private laboratories,” the MoHP notice read, “However, there have been complaints from the people that some private laboratories have been charging people more money by inserting other sub headings like epidemic control.”

The ministry has also warned strict action against the labs defying government directives.

MoHP has vowed to remove defaulting labs from the test list if they do not abide by the directives.
