MCC is in Nepal’s interest: NPC Vice Chairman Kandel

KATHMANDU: Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Puspa Raj Kandel has remarked that MCC grant is a must for Nepal for the country’s insufficient capital.

Speaking to News Agency Nepal, NPC Vice Chairman Kandel commented that the public opinion for or against the Grant has made people wonder if the grant itself is ill-intent, but the fact is that MCC is in the interest of Nepal as the project it aims to support is a transformation project for Nepal.

“Making the grant politically biased and comments on it as per the party views about the MCC has created the illusion that the project itself is wrong,” Dr. Kandel said.

“The government should move the project forward even if the MCC is not approved as a large national transmission line is needed within a few years.”

He said that the project is enlisted as the transformation project in the 15th Five Year Plan as per the recommendation of the Ministry of Energy.
