Medical institution having less than 100 beds would not be permitted for nursing education, Minister Poudel

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Devendra Poudel said the government would not allow teaching institutions not possessing their own 100 beds for the operation of nursing education.

Minister Poudel said this while receiving a memorandum submitted by a member of the parliament from Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Bhaktapur municipality mayor Sunil Prajapati on Friday.

The leader duo submitted the memorandum after the municipality-run Institute for Khwapa Multi-technical Studies was not included in the notice published by CTEVT on November 24 calling for the admission of staff nurse.

Minister Poudel clarified that the ministry took such a decision complying with the provision of the Medical Education Act which only allows medical institutions having more than 100 beds to operate nursing classes.

Though the municipality’s demand is genuine, the legal provision has created trouble in regard to the operation of nursing education, the minister admitted.
