Nepal Bar Association seeks Chief Justice Rana’s resignation

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has demanded the resignation of Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

A meeting of NBA office bearers held Tuesday decided to seek the resignation of CJ Rana concluding that the dignity of the court could not be protected and the judiciary’s conduct was under fire under CJ Rana.

The Association has also warned of agitation if the Chief Justice did not step down.

Senior Advocate Tikaram Bhattarai said that the NBA decided to seek the resignation of CJ Rana.

CJ Rana is accused of colluding with the Executive and eroding the dignity of the court. Following the tussle between CJ Rana and other judges of the Supreme Court (SC), no case has been heard in the Apex Court for two days and the pressure is mounting on CJ Rana to resign.

As many as 14 SC judges boycotted benches saying that CJ Rana should provide a solution or express his commitment to remedy his mistake.
