JHAPA: Nepali Congress, Jhapa has witnessed election fervor with the 14th general convention of the party draws closer. With this, district leaders have started staking their claims for different positions.

Former central General-Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma have stepped up their consultations with party cadres in Jhapa.

The central leaders have focused their efforts towards party conventions from local to district, province, and central levels.

NC Jhapa committee has conducted several rounds of virtual meetings on the presence of leader duo, Sitaula, and Sharma, due to coronavirus pandemic.

The meetings have dwelt on the agenda as to how to conduct the general convention and conventions amidst the troubled times.

Jhapa President Uddhab Thapa has declared not to stake his claim for the post again as he has so far served two terms. He said a new leadership would emerge in Jhapa which has significant space in the central politics.

According to the calendar published by the NC central committee, the district conventions are scheduled to take place on August 10.

“We are in consultation on how to conduct the district convention in Jhapa when COVID-19 pandemic has not come under control,” Jhapa President Thapa said, adding alternative measures are being discussed for the convention.
