No-confidence motion against Gandaki CM being tabled today



POKHARA: A no-confidence motion is being tabled against Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung at a special session of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly beginning today.

According to today’s agenda prepared by the Business Advisory Committee, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel, the proposed Chief Minister, will speak in the special session.

Likewise, other assembly members will also be given time to speak.

According to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, voting will take place only after the discussion on the no-confidence motion.

Province Chief Amik Sherchan had called a meeting of the special session on Monday on the basis of a petition filed by the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajwadi Party against Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung.

In the no-confidence motion, NC parliamentary party leader Pokhrel has been proposed as the Chief Minister.

The no-confidence motion has 28 signatures. 31 votes are needed to get a majority in the 60-member state assembly.

While the CPN-UML has 27 lawmakers, NC has 15, and the Maoist has 12 lawmakers.

Likewise, there are three MPs from the Janamorcha, two from Janata Samajwadi Party and one independent.
