Delhi lockdown extended for another week as Covid-19 cases surge

NEW DELHI: The lockdown in India’s capital city Delhi has been extended by another week owing to the surge in coronavirus cases and the unabated severity of the virus.

The curbs imposed last week in Delhi will continue till May 3, according to India Today.

The lockdown was earlier scheduled to end on April 26.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the virus continued to wreak havoc in the Indian capital.

According to him, while the positivity rate has reduced, Delhi has been seeing an acute shortage of medical oxygen, the report said.

Kejriwal also said the onslaught of coronavirus has not subsided even as the government had imposed six days lockdown.

Delhi has been registering over 20,000 daily coronavirus cases and a positivity rate as high as 32 per cent, reports said.
