KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has expressed his commitment to endorsing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) from the Parliament at any cost.
“It has to be endorsed at any cost, and Speaker Agni Sapkota must present it in the upcoming budget session of the House of Representatives without hesitation. He should not act as a puppet anymore,” PM Oli said in a television interview Sunday evening.
Asked what if Speaker did not do it, PM Oli warned, “He will face the consequences.” Prime Minister Oli added that either the Speaker will be impeached or people will discard him in the upcoming election if he did not present MCC in the Parliament.
Speaker Sapkota is obstructing the process, according to Prime Minister Oli.
Prime Minister Oli further claimed that Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, too, was in favor of endorsing the MCC.
“I have got the report that he has been telling the US Ambassador that he would want the MCC endorsed when he becomes the Prime Minister,” PM Oli said.
PM Oli further stated that he would fight a political battle if some UML parliamentarians tried to oust him by crossing the floor.
Prime Minister Oli also alleged Maoist Center Chairman “Prachanda” of being a national problem.
“His (Prachanda) only aim is to create instability in the country,” PM Oli said in a television interview Sunday evening.
PM Oli, in fact, sniffed sarcasm over Prachanda saying, “Haven’t you seen him trying to convince Sher Bahadur Deuba and Mahanta Thakur to become prime minister?”
He added asking, “What can be more ridiculous for him to seek my resignation but hesitating to withdraw his party’s support to my government?”
PM Oli came down heavily on Prachanda for keeping people in dark over the question of leadership.
Listing out what he said “pro-people” measures, PM Oli claimed that the CPN-UML will come back to power by improving its tally.
In another context, PM Oli said his government would complete its full tenure saying, “This government will complete its five-year term and hold general elections.”
He also claimed that his party – CPN-UML – would form a new government by garnering a two-thirds majority in the elections. “Early election is the country’s priority and necessity, and my priority is to run the government,” PM Oli said adding, “And, remember, I will become the Prime Minister again.”
He claimed that the last three years under him saw some “remarkable” developmental works, and measures to lift people out of poverty.
Prime Minister Oli said his government implemented some schemes for the benefit of the poor.
According to him, all parameters of internal security were better than the previous governments.
Meanwhile, he also dismissed reports of foreign interference as reported in the media. “How could someone claim that Nepal has become a playground of foreign meddling?” he queried ruling out such activities of late.
