KATHMANDU: CPN-UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction is holding a meeting of the Central Committee (CC) at a party palace in Kalanki in the capital on Friday.
The disgruntled faction’s CC meeting is taking place prior to the Parliamentary Party (PP) meeting convened by Prime Minister KP Oli at 3 pm today. The meeting will decide to ask the party chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli to call meetings as per the party statute, said a central member of the faction.
UML leader Yubaraj Gyawali said that the meeting will discuss how to move forward in the context when the party has been mired in intra-party feud. “The party is in a dilemma now. The agenda of the discussion is how to maintain the party unity and move forward in the days ahead,” said Gyawali.
Earlier, Madhav Nepal’s party leaders and lawmakers did not attend both the CC meeting and the parliamentary party (PP) meeting called by Chairman KP Oli in Baluwatar.
The Nepal-Khanal faction has been carrying out parallel activities saying that Oli has tried to run the party unilaterally after he nominated 23 former Maoist Central leaders including Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to the central committee, and took away the responsibility of some UML leaders.
The party, which has been holding activities including the gathering of national cadres and meetings of people’s organizations, is now preparing to form parallel organizations in districts as well.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Oli-affiliated Central Committee held in Baluwatar on Monday decided to ask four leaders, including senior leader Nepal, for their activities against the party’s interest. Leaders are preparing to respond to the clarification.
