Bird flu in Kathmandu is under control: DoVS

DoVS urges all to take precautions against bird flu



KATHMANDU: The Department of Veterinary Services (DoVS) has confirmed the news of bird flu cases in Tarakeshwor Kathmandu and has said that the areas have been completely disinfected.

Issuing a press release Friday, the DoVS said that Ward No 1 of Tarakeshwor Municipality, where the bird flu was noticed on Thursday, has been completely disinfected by now.

According to the release, all the contagious items and the domestic birds in the affected areas have been destroyed by mobilizing the concerned agencies of the respective local, province and federal authorities.

The DoVS informed that 5657 layers of chickens, 7236 broiler chickens, 2504 local chickens, 50 turkeys, 17 chickens, 3560 eggs, and 3000 kg of fodder grains were destroyed to prevent the bird flu from spreading outside.

The Department has requested to disinfect the farm premises regularly and pay special attention to personal hygiene, prevent domestic birds from coming into contact with wild birds, and also discourage open poultry farming.
In case of any traces or symptoms of bird flu, the department has urged all to notify DoVS.
